Trespasser Demo
Why? Well first off, my initial reaction was the same as a lot of others. My first impression was gross! Compared to the latest graphically slick offerings, the graphics in Trespasser are butt ugly, the controls take getting used to and Anne's arm at times seems like an out of control snake. But beauty can be skin deep and we have all been bitching for months that too much emphasis is being placed on graphics with not enough emphasis being placed on gameplay. For me if the demo is any indication of the full game, then there is an awfull lot under the not so beautiful skin of Trespasser. Like what you ask? Well for starters, and showing my bias, the sound is fantastic. Again, based on the demo, to not experience Trespasser with 3D audio on a good sound system, is to not experience Trespasser. This is a game about the environment and sound is a big part of Trespasser. Based on the sound cues, I knew which way to run and which way to shoot, and a couple of times the sound made me jump out of my skin. All this in a demo thats a little too short! As for the graphics, well after a little while of being immersed in the environment I found myself not minding the look at all. I played with the graphics at maximum detail at 640*480 and found the demo quite playable and enjoyable in terms of frame rate. So what am I playing it on? A Lucky Star BX Motherboard with a Celeron 266 OC to 83*4 for 333, 64 meg of PC100 ram, a Diamond Monster Fusion AGP or Creative Labs 12 Meg Voodoo 2 board and a Sound Blaster Live! with the Cambridge SoundWorks FourPoint Surround System. Check back for my report on the full game in a couple of weeks.
