Shogo uses Monolith's LithTech 3D engine and it's very competitive with what most other 3D engines offer. Strong points in Shogo are the spectacular explosions, the futuristic dead city landscapes, the ability to show more characters without much slowdown and the great D3D mode, which works well with most 3D cards. A few weak points with Shogo's graphics are that the textures aren't as detailed as the ones you find in Unreal. The levels and characters aren’t quite as detailed as the ones in Half-Life. For example, characters miss things like moving lips but Shogo's levels and characters are still better than most other first person shooters. The characters also move well and you can clearly see where you hit them with your fire.

The game is very scalable and plays well even with a P166 with a Voodoo1 if you disable some of the features. The game still looks good with those features disabled. The software renderer is also of good quality, but the game looks much better with a 3D card and playing with TNT allows resolutions as great as 1024x768 where the clarity and sharpness of the textures is much better.

Most of the on foot levels are realistic indoor environments you find in games like Sin or Half-Life. They are not as detailed as the ones in Half-Life but still have nice features like bullet holes in the walls and body parts and gun shells being all over the place. There are some on foot levels where you both move in indoor and outdoor environments. In these levels the outdoor environments are city landscapes that are quite dead. The ones you play in the Mecha are mostly futuristic dead city landscapes. The only moving things are you, other Mechas and some form of vehicles. You also have some cars you can smash by stepping on them, but overall there are not many details. There are a few more vastly different Mecha levels like deserts and a hangar level where you not just have other Mechas to fight but also several foot soldiers, which is fun. Multiplayer

Shogo is a great DM multiplayer game featuring support for Internet, Modem, serial-link and LAN. Shogo is shipping with 12 on-foot levels and 10 where you're in a Mecha. It’s easy to join a game over the internet either using Shogo's MP Wizard or Gamespy and the lag is almost as good as Quake2, which is pretty damn good even for me with a modem and a poor ISP.

On foot it is similar to Sin but the Mecha adds another dimension to the MP game. Racing through cities in vehicle mode and then quickly transform back and blow away your enemies or jumping on top of some building and using the sniper rifle is a blast. The 3D sound is also more important in DM where you often are surprised by some one coming from behind you or need to quickly determine where that coward is shooting on you with his sniper rifle.
