| RioPort First MetaTrust Partner to Combine High-Fidelity AAC With InterTrust Advanced Digital Rights Management Technology for High-Quality Secure Music Delivery |
| SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 1
/PRNewswire/ -- InterTrust Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: ITRU), the MetaTrust
Utility(TM), today announced its strong support for RioPort, Inc.'s license of the
Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) technology for use in the RioPort Audio Manager software and
related production and delivery tools. RioPort will now be able to provide the market with
high-quality tools and player products that are SDMI-compliant and
MetaTrust-Certified(TM). Using AAC with InterTrust's leading digital rights management (DRM) technology permits deployment of AAC within the leading content management and protection framework. Audio fidelity experts consider AAC to provide CD-quality fidelity at the lowest data rates possible today. AAC is seen by many in this space as the successor of MP3. ``The integration of AAC technology into RioPort's digital audio services and solutions is an important step in providing the highest quality digital music experience for consumers,'' said Anthony Schaller, senior vice president and chief technology officer at RioPort, Inc. ``Not only is AAC widely acknowledged as superior technology, but it is a recognized international standard.'' ``This agreement reinforces Dolby's intent to make AAC the global standard for electronic music delivery,'' said Ramzi Haidamus, Technology/Business Strategist at Dolby Laboratories. ``RioPort's adoption of AAC is a significant first step in the deployment of AAC within the appropriate protection and DRM technology framework.'' ``RioPort's AAC/InterTrust combination provides music companies with a powerful opportunity to distribute rights managed CD-quality music with rich electronic business models to consumers. This is an excellent demonstration of how MetaTrust partners can use InterTrust DRM with best of breed technology such as AAC,'' said Talal Shamoon, senior vice president, Media, InterTrust Technologies. ``We enthusiastically support this agreement.'' InterTrust Digital Rights Management Digital rights management (DRM) technologies protect and manage rights and interests in digital information.
