| NEWTON, Mass., April 19
/PRNewswire/ -- Cambridge SoundWorks (CSW), maker of home theater and multimedia
loudspeakers, today announced the introduction of its new Model 88(TM)CD AM/FM music
system. Derived from the Model 88 AM/FM radio designed by industry veteran Henry Kloss,
the Model 88 CD is much more than a ``table radio.'' It is a one-piece music system,
combining a CD player, advanced electronics, and a sophisticated stereo speaker system
with built-in subwoofer. Cambridge SoundWorks is a wholly owned subsidiary of Creative
Technology Ltd. (Nasdaq: CREAF), and sister company to Hifi.com, an online destination for
consumer electronics and home entertainment. Fitting easily on a table or bookshelf, the Model 88CD is the perfect addition to any room: kitchen, study, living room, office, dorm room, or bedroom. ``The Model 88CD has the elegance of a good compact design, combining useful features and unexcelled sonic quality,'' said Cambridge SoundWorks co- founder and designer Henry Kloss. ``The built-in subwoofer adds the warmth and weight only honest bass reproduction adds to music, offering truly satisfying sound.'' Model 88 CD Features The Model 88CD has a large, back-lit display panel that's clearly visible across a room. Its dual alarms play music (radio or CD) or a classic ``beep'' sound. Alarm activation, sleep delay and snooze options are easily controlled from the palm-sized remote control, which also duplicates the radio's main controls. Complementing its clear FM-Stereo and AM radio performance, the Model 88CD's Compact Disc player incorporates Random and Repeat modes, plus ``elapsed time'' display. Two AUX inputs connect to other sound sources. One is user- selectable from the front panel (for TV audio or personal music players). The other provides a constant mix with the main three inputs (useful for personal computers.) The Model 88CD features the same kind of discrete-component FM tuner typically found in more expensive high-end audio components. Its sensitive, selective design provides outstanding reception from marginal FM broadcasts, while avoiding interference from strong local signals. It offers both manual and seek tuning modes. 12 station preset memories (six FM and six AM) supply easy ``favorite station'' selection directly from the front panel or the remote controller. Superior Sonic Performance The Model 88CD's third speaker (its subwoofer) is the foundation of its superb sound. It reproduces the musically important deep bass content that is normally associated with component stereo systems. The Model 88CD's main stereo speakers provide remarkable musical transparency. Three amplifier channels power the speakers, allowing the system to fill even large rooms with dynamic, accurate, distortion-free music. To enhance stereo reproduction, the Model 88CD offers a ``Wide'' mode. This precise sound processor increases the apparent width and depth of the stereo soundstage. The Model 88CD's solid construction features a multi-chamber acoustic system, plus acoustically transparent front grilles. The palm-sized infrared remote controller works from any point in a room. The Model 88CD is available in two handsome, durable finishes -- Ivory or Slate. Pricing and Availability The Model 88CD is available at Cambridge SoundWorks' 26 retail store locations in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Northern California and on the Internet at www.hifi.com.
