new YST-M40 two-piece powered speaker system at Retail Vision 2000. Designed for today's
computer multimedia technology -- DVD, MP3, music CDs and Computer Games -- these systems
deliver professional sonic performance without the need for a subwoofer and related
accessories. The YST-M40 has an estimated street price of $59.99 and will be available in
late April. The YST-M40 is capable of reproducing frequencies from 70 Hz to 20 kHz, ideal for viewing movies, playing music on the PC, or computer games. Power is rated at 24 watts RMS. While most speaker systems providing similar levels of performance are large and require additional bass reinforcement, this compact design deliver professiona, high-quality sound in a convenient desktop environment. The YST-M40 delivers full-bodied sound while occupying a small footprint, minimizing the space, wires and other inconveniences associated with traditional three-piece units. Utilizing Yamaha's Advanced Active Servo Technology(TM) (Advanced-YSTTM), the YST-M40 optimizes the interaction of the amplifier, enclosure and speaker. This patented technology increases the efficiency of the system and delivers extra deep bass. Additionally, the YST- M40 features Yamaha's proprietary YMERSION(TM), a 3D effects generator, designed to deliver enhanced 3D surround for today's film soundtracks and improve the overall spaciousness of the sound generated by multimedia applications. ``The PC multimedia market continues to grow stronger,'' states Henio Arcangeli, Jr., vice president/general manager, Consumer Products Division, Yamaha Corporation of America. ``With this new system, Yamaha is looking to a more 'audiophile' customer who wants sound that is superior to that delivered by traditional PC OEM speakers or after-market alternatives.'' A 3D on/off button and a dedicated headphone jack further enhance the YST-MS40's capabilities. If additional low end is desired, the YST-M40 contains a subwoofer output jack. The YST-MS40 is magnetically shielded, and will not affect video displays or other media. It is available in Platinum White or Calypso Black to match any computing environment.
