| SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--Jan. 28, 2000--AKM Semiconductor introduces the AK4380, a new 24-bit stereo audio
DAC for higher performance but still cost sensitive consumer and professional electronics
systems. Ideal applications are Studio Effects Processors, DVD players and AC3 amplifiers.
This device is based on AKM's revolutionary multi-bit Delta-Sigma technology, that offers high linearity preserving the THD+N specified at 88dB for this device. It operates at sampling rates up to 96 kHz with a dynamic range specified at 100dB. The AK4380 includes features such as a de-emphasis filter, a second order analog low pass filter, and soft mute. According to Ahmad Nowbakht, AKM applications engineer, this part will allow customers to offer 24-bit 96kHz operation while keeping total system cost to a minimum. This expands AKM's product offering, providing the industry the widest selection of audio converters available from any one manufacturer. The AK4380 is packaged in a small 16-pin TSSOP package, only 6.4mm by 5.0mm. Running from a 5 V power supply, it dissipates only 70 mW of power. Its operating temperature range is a wide -40C to +85C. Prototype quantities are available now. This DAC is priced at $1.59 in 5K quantities.
