Henninger Interactive Media Uses DVDMaestro from Spruce to Complete New `Ultimate DVD Collection' for Unapix Entertainment

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2000--Henninger Interactive Media (HIM), the multimedia arm of the Henninger Media Services network, today announced the completion of the Ultimate DVD Collection - the sequel to the all-time best-selling special interest DVD -- for Unapix Entertainment. HIM used the DVDMaestro(TM) authoring system from Spruce Technologies to incorporate the latest in DVD technology, capabilities, and features in the Silver, Gold and Platinum series of DVD titles.

The Ultimate DVD Collection features an unprecedented compendium of sights and sounds from some of the world's greatest producers, artists and engineers. The collection serves to highlight the ability of DVD to accurately reproduce high quality program material in a diverse array of audio and video formats, provide multi-language audio tracks, and multiple language subtitles all with a high degree of user interactivity and navigation options. Unapix anticipates that unit shipments of the new Ultimate DVD Collection could eventually surpass the original.

The complete Ultimate DVD Collection was authored on the DVDMaestro system from Spruce Technologies. ``Spruce's turnkey DVDStation(TM) solution using DVDMaestro software made it easy to view and set up complex and comprehensive navigation structures and was the only authoring system on the market that could support both DTS and 96 kHz .wav audio source files,'' said Donald O'Connell, HIM DVD Project Engineer.

O'Connell continued, ``Programming changes and updates were easy to make with the Spruce system. The Ultimate DVD Collection entailed a total of four DVD's which were developed over a period of several months. As program material was updated, changes needed to be carried though to several discs. Spruce's `workbook mode' and the ability to copy and paste menu design eliminated manual duplication of changes in comprehensive navigation structures. A significant degree of flexibility from the authoring system was crucial for the Audio and Video Tools disc which contained 99 video titles sets, over 2,000 program chains and over 150 menus.''

HIM made use of Henninger Media Services extensive in house video, audio and graphic facilities to provide complete production of full motion video icons, animated menus, logo design, foreign language subtitles, surround sound design, sweetening and mixing needed prior to premastering and authoring the Ultimate DVD Collection. The Platinum title alone is comprised of over 140 individual audio and video sources which arrived on a multitude of formats.

``Our in-house creative and production capabilities sped the entire production process, including premastering and authoring, as we could maintain a high degree of production management and quality control'' said Tom McCarthy, HIM manager. ``As the project neared completion, a number of changes were quickly and easily incorporated by virtue of having direct access to a full range of post production capabilities,'' he added.

The Ultimate DVD Collection has the following features:
