World's Most Popular Music Jukebox Software, Now With More than 21 Million Users and Over 80% Market Share, Extends Lead With New Agreements Delivering Breakthrough Music Portability |
| LAS VEGAS, (CES), Jan. 7
/PRNewswire/ -- RealNetworks®, Inc. (Nasdaq: RNWK), the recognized leader in media
delivery on the Internet, today announced the release of RealJukebox(TM) Update 1,
delivering key advances in consumer music portability through integrated audio CD creation
capabilities from Adaptec and built-in support for Iomega storage devices. The
award-winning RealJukebox has continued to extend its lead as the most popular music
jukebox software, with more than 21 million unique users since its release in May, 1999. ``RealJukebox has demonstrated leadership in the market for music jukebox software,'' said Howard Dyckovsky, vice president of operations at PC Data Online, a leading market research firm. ``With 80% market share and a rapidly growing user base, RealJukebox is well-positioned to deliver the promise of the digital music revolution to mass market consumers.'' RealJukebox Update 1, available for immediate download from http://www.real.com or via the AutoUpdate feature in RealJukebox or RealPlayer, now provides two additional ways for consumers to customize their digital music collections and take them on the go. New integrated CD-Recording technologies from Adaptec, a leader in audio and video recording software, enable RealJukebox consumers to create their own custom audio CDs which can be played back on any standard CD player. Users can immediately take advantage of the huge installed base of CD players rather than waiting for newer technologies to be adopted. By integrating Adaptec's Easy CD Creator technology, RealJukebox now enables users with CD-R or CD-RW drives to create personalized CDs by simply dragging and dropping individual music files or personal playlists from the RealJukebox music library onto a built-in CD-R icon. RealJukebox Update 1 also provides new drag and drop file transferring capabilities to users of Iomega's Zip®, Jaz® or Clik!(TM) drives, allowing them to quickly and easily transfer hours of music between their PCs at home, work or school. Four hours of CD quality music can be carried on a single Zip 250MB disk, each with an estimated street price of less than $20 (U.S.), when purchased in a six- or four-pack. In addition, Iomega will distribute RealJukebox with each of their drives and with every pack of Zip, Jaz and Clik! disks. ``Our release of RealJukebox Update 1, coupled with today's announcements with Adaptec and Iomega, are evidence of our commitment to deliver the best possible digital music experience to consumers,'' said Dave Richards, vice president, Consumer Products, RealNetworks, Inc. ``The new portability features built into RealJukebox Update 1, including CD-Recording and Iomega storage integration, will add even more to consumers' enjoyment of digital music.'' RealJukebox, the world's most popular music jukebox software, enables consumers to build and manage extensive digital music collections by recording songs from their CDs or downloading them from the Internet, and play them back from a PC, portable music player or stereo. Users can also customize the look of their RealJukebox by selecting from the hundreds of available ``skins.'' More than two million skins have been downloaded since the product's launch in May 1999.
