Companies Demonstrate First All-Digital Loudspeaker Technology at CES |
| LAS VEGAS, CES 2000, Jan. 6
/PRNewswire/ -- Avio Digital, Inc. (San Carlos, CA), developers of the high-performance
MediaWire(TM) home network technology, has today announced new alliances with Apogee
Technology, Inc. (Norwood, MA) and Huff Loudspeaker Co. (Fairfield, IA) to deliver the
first completely digital, end-to-end audio system. This revolutionary design eliminates
all analog signals from the circuit path, providing the ultimate in pure digital sound
reproduction. Avio Digital's MediaWire home network technology provides connectivity and interoperability, enabling systems to share multimedia data and control over standard home wiring at speeds of up to 100 Mbps. Apogee Technology's DDX® all-digital amplifiers allow direct conversion of network audio into speaker power. With Huff Loudspeaker's revolutionary driver design and direct drive provided by digital crossovers, consumers will hear uncompromised audio reproduction. Along with its partners, Avio Digital will be demonstrating a variety of multimedia home networking technology solutions at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2000 in Las Vegas, NV. MediaWire's ability to distribute high-quality digital audio throughout the home is the public focus of this CES network. Avio Digital and its partners will be giving demonstrations at the
following locations at CES 2000: * Las Vegas Convention Center, Digital Living Room Pavilion,
Booth 6547: With Apogee Technology and Huff Loudspeaker.
* T.H.E Show, St. Tropez Hotel, Suite 1804: With Huff Loudspeaker and
Apogee Technology
* Las Vegas Hilton, Product Demo Suite: With Digital Home Technologies,
Huff Loudspeaker and Apogee Technology (by appointment only; inquire at
the Hilton information desk for suite number.).
To schedule a customer meeting at the Las Vegas Hilton suite, call Anna Porebski at 650-598-4804. To schedule a media appointment, call Jonathan Hirshon at 408-393-4900 (cell phone) or leave a voice message at 408-969-4888, ext. 101. ``Avio Digital is pleased that two of the most respected innovators in audio technology have embraced the capabilities of MediaWire,'' said Penny Johnson, director of marketing at Avio Digital, Inc. ``With MediaWire as the bridge between audio and other devices, users will now be able to experience high-quality multimedia and music throughout the home, regardless of its source.'' About MediaWire The bandwidth of the MediaWire home network (up to 100 Mbps in the first-generation product) enables a single cable or telephone line to simultaneously deliver thirty-two 24-bit audio channels, eight MPEG-2 video channels (6 Mbps each), sixteen phone or ISDN lines and over 12 Mbps of serial control or TCP/IP (Internet) data. Using MediaWire home network technology, one connector provides all these services. Avio Digital plans to broadly license the MediaWire home network technology to consumer electronics, cable/telecom, and PC manufacturers and develop MediaWire-enhanced products. Customer delivery of silicon is expected in the 2nd quarter of 2000 at an anticipated volume price of under $10. MediaWire was originally conceived at Interval Research Corporation (Palo Alto, CA) -- Avio Digital is an Interval spin-out company chartered with the ongoing commercial development, deployment and marketing of the MediaWire technology. Digital media is distributed by the MediaWire home with a range of 33 meters (over 100 feet) between devices using standard Category 3 telephone wiring, or 400 meters between devices using coax. With the ability to connect up to 100 devices of different types, the MediaWire home network is capable of supporting a total cable length of more than 4,000 meters (about 2.5 miles). About DDX Apogee's DDX is a high efficiency, all-digital amplifier technology designed to meet the needs of a wide range of applications. DDX uses patented digital processing to directly drive integrated or discrete power switching devices. This amplifier design eliminates digital to analog conversion (DAC) preserving pure digital sound from source to speakers. With the highest efficiency available, DDX eases power supply requirements and simplifies packaging, providing a low cost solution. DDX applications include: PC multimedia, car audio, digital TV and home theater. Apogee will be showcasing its DDX chip set and amplifier board-level solutions at CES 2000. About Digital System Three Omni Huff Loudspeaker's forthcoming Digital System Three Omni, also on display at CES 2000, is the world's first fully digital speaker system. It features self-contained crossovers, amplifiers, and driver correction. The exotic drivers used by Huff uses across its entire product line have the lowest distortion and coloration available. Avio Digital, Inc. An independent start-up based in San Carlos, Calif., Avio Digital is funded by seed investments from Vulcan Northwest Corp. Ventures Inc. and Interval Research Corp.; both are owned by financier Paul G. Allen. More information on Avio Digital and MediaWire may be found at the company's website at www.aviodigital.com. Apogee Technology, Inc. Apogee Technology, Inc. is an independent company providing DDX amplifier solutions to audio manufacturers through technology licensing, semiconductor and custom product sales. Additional information about Apogee and DDX can be found at www.apogeeddx.com. Huff Loudspeaker Co. Using the world's finest drivers and filters, Huff Loudspeaker Co. is integrating new technologies at the forefront of high-end speaker design and manufacturing. After studying E.E. at Georgia Tech, design leader John Huff became a Warner Bros. recording artist, producer, studio musician, and engineer. He has spent 20 years listening to music live, then immediately through the playback system after recording, gaining experience at detecting the coloration induced by audio systems, much of which comes from the speakers. This has resulted in several unique speaker technologies. The System Three Omnidirectional and the System One Ceramic/Ribbon are regarded as two of the most accurate speakers available at any price.
