Boston Acoustics Introduces Its First USB Speaker System, The BA735 USB

BA735 USB Selected as a "Gold Tree" Device by the USB Implementers Forum

CES, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Boston Acoustics, Inc., (Nasdaq: BOSA), today introduced the BA735 USB subwoofer/satellite system, a premier digital multimedia sound system designed for computers that have a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection. The BA735 USB delivers three critically important benefits to the end user that sound card/speaker combinations can not - fast digital streaming through the USB connection, easy hookup to the computer and four-channel gaming with only two front satellite speakers.

Boston Acoustics' BA735 USB received high praise from attendees at the October Plugfest in Milpitas, CA and will be the standard USB speakers for all the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) test and debug suites at the upcoming Plugfest in January. Boston's BA735 USB speakers performed flawlessly when connected to the computer through 5 linked hubs. As a result of its excellent performance and superb audio quality, USB-IF has selected Boston Acoustics as the USB speaker in the ``Gold Tree'' of USB devices. ``Gold Tree'' devices represent the latest in cutting edge technology for USB devices and are used to test all USB peripherals and systems seeking the USB logo.

Connection to the BA735 preserves a 100 percent digital data stream from the computer to the speaker system, eliminating the need for a soundcard in a computer. The benefit of this connection is that the signal is converted from digital to analog within the BA735 USB system instead of the electrically noisy PC -- enabling the user to hear a much cleaner audio sound than with a soundcard feeding conventional speaker systems. The Boston system provides a graphical user interface (GUI) on the computer screen for its controls, enabling simple operation of volume and bass level.

In addition, the BA735 USB offers Virtual 4-Channel Gaming, to create a complete 360-degree soundstage for exciting gaming effects, using only the two front satellites. Incorporating sophisticated QSound® software, the BA735 USB achieves realistic 4-channel effects without requiring four speakers or a 4-channel gaming card.

``Our USB speaker system greatly simplifies operation by eliminating the redundant volume and tone controls inherent in most Windows-based systems,'' said Andy Kotsatos, CEO of Boston Acoustics. ``Consumers can adjust volume and bass level either on the speaker itself or by using our GUI, and you don't need to pause a program to use our GUI.''

The ultra compact three-piece system features two micro-sized satellites and a separate subwoofer. High performance state-of-the-art digital-to-analog circuitry and a three-channel amplifier to power the subwoofer and two satellites are housed within the subwoofer cabinet. The system's master volume and mode controls are conveniently located on one of the satellites for easy user access. Since the subwoofer reproduces only non-localizable deep bass tones, it can be located well away from the satellites -- maximizing the system's placement flexibility.

Product Features and Specifications

Boston's extensive transducer design experience and advanced Finite Element Analysis computer modeling was used to create drivers with wide frequency response that rival much larger, more expensive units. Housed in each satellite is a miniature Boston-designed driver that covers the range from 180-20,000Hz with remarkable accuracy and smoothness. The subwoofer uses Boston's long-excursion woofer for bass impact and extension that is difficult to believe from such a compact unit. Because of its advanced driver design, powerful, equalized amplifier, and optimized system tuning, the Digital BA735's subwoofer response reaches an impressive -3dB point of 55Hz, and will deliver the full weight and power of virtually any program material.

Distribution

The BA735 USB is available as an upgrade option now on Gateway Astro and Profile computers.
