Addonics Announces Sleek ``Pocket DVD/CDRW'' Drive With Firewire, Cardbus, and USB/USB 2.0 Interfaces

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 2002--Addonics Technologies today announced a sleek new combination DVD/CDRW storage solution that plays DVD movies or audio CDs, burns original CDs, and is barely larger than a standard Compact Disc case.

The Addonics Pocket DVD/CDRW drive is among the smallest and most flexible storage solutions available with its high-speed FireWire, CardBus and USB 2.0 interfaces and interchangeable cable. The Pocket DVD/CDRW drive features an 8x DVD player, 8x CDRW burner, and a 24x CD-ROM drive -- all packed inside a 5.62 x 5.31 x .87 inch enclosure that weighs just 14 ounces.

Addonics bundles the Pocket DVD/CDRW drive with CD mastering software, and MPEG-2 decoding software for DVD movie playback. The combined DVD/CDRW allows users to buy a single drive to add DVD movie playback, CDRW and CD-ROM functions to any computer via one USB, FireWire or CardBus connection.

The drive can record data to CDRW media in five popular modes: Track at Once, Multisession, Disc at Once, Session at Once, and Packet Writing. The drive is also compatible with eight different multimedia formats, including: DVD, CD-ROM, CD-ROM XA, CD-I, CD-DA, CD-Bridge, CD-Extra, and Video CD. It will read five popular CDRW recording formats (Track at Once, Multi-Session, Disc at Once, Session at Once, and Packet Writing. The Pocket DVD/CDRW has a data transfer rate of 3600 KB/sec (24x CD) and 10,600 KB/sec (DVD 8x).

Every Pocket DVD/CDRW drive features a flexible interface connection, which allows users to connect to either USB, FireWire or CardBus ports on any computer by switching to the appropriate Addonics interface cable. No software drivers are required for connecting the Pocket DVD/CDRW via the USB or FireWire ports on computers running Windows Me, 2000 and XP. Software drivers included are for Windows 98SE and for CardBus connection.

Addonics also manufactures a line of optional controllers, which includes a USB 2.0 card, FireWire card and CardBus FireWire adapter for upgrading notebook or desktop PCs to high speed interfaces. The list price for Pocket DVD/CDRW starts at $399 for the USB 2.0 version.

The Addonics Pocket DVD/CDRW drive is available through major catalog companies, resellers, VARs and distributors, including StorageUSA.com, Amazon.com, PC Connection, CDW, Buy.com, Insight, Ingram Micro, and Ma Lab.
