Acoustic Research, AR, Brings Dolby Surround to 900MHz Wireless Headphones

--900MHz Wireless Surround Sound Headphones Feature Dolby®Digital Technology For Theater-Like Sonic Accuracy--

LAKE MARY, FL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 2002-- Acoustic Research® (AR®), the company that revolutionized the modern loudspeaker industry when it introduced the acoustic suspension loudspeaker in 1954, recently announced the latest in a long line of industry firsts.

Beginning later this month, AR will ship the first 900MHz Wireless Surround Sound Headphones with Dolby® Digital technology.

AR's Wireless Surround Sound Headphones (Model AW791) combine a Dolby® Digital processor and surround sound headphone technology for personal movie enjoyment. With a signal-to-noise ratio of over 70dB and over 35dB stereo separation, the 900MHz Wireless Surround Sound Headphones offer ultra-quiet performance that is critical for experiencing the subtle elements in any movie soundtrack or surround audio recording.

``Until now, 900MHz headphones offering virtual surround sound could not replicate the precise imaging of a Dolby® Digital soundtrack,'' said Joe Forget, Senior Product Manager - Wireless Audio Products, Recoton Corporation. ``However, AR's Wireless Surround Sound Headphones utilize a Dolby® Digital processor and a Surround Sound headphone technology that produces imaging and sonic detail virtually identical to that of a movie theater or a live musical performance. Combined with the benefits of being wireless, our Surround Sound Headphones allow movie fans to enjoy their favorite films, without sacrificing the Dolby® Digital experience.''

AR's Wireless Surround Sound Headphones employ the same Dolby® Digital processor that is found in a receiver, amplifier or DVD-V player. When used in conjunction with a virtual surround sound algorithm, imaging is virtually identical to that which is heard in a home theater with 5.1 channels.

To complete the package, Acoustic Research developed a new 900MHz technology that offers a full signal-to-noise ratio of 70dB, with 30dB stereo separation, far exceeding the previous industry standard of 55dB for a 900MHz wireless product.

Easy Operation/Impeccable Sound

AR's Wireless Surround Sound Headphones are easy to operate. The transmitter's Input Select Switch allows users to choose among three separate audio inputs, making the headphones compatible with both digital and analog audio/video equipment. The 900MHz signal transmits up to 300 feet, through walls, floors and ceilings. The Channel Select Switch makes it easy to alter transmission frequencies to maximize reception when other 900MHz products are present. High-capacity Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries power the headphones and are recharged each time the headphones are placed on the transmitter. The Ni-MH batteries hold the charge for more than six hours at a time without the memory effect of Ni-CD batteries.

In addition to offering sonic accuracy, the Wireless Surround Sound Headphones are as comfortable as they are precise. Swiveling, oversized earcups make adjustment easy for maximum comfort, so that even an epic-length feature won't leave listeners feeling fatigued.

AR's Wireless Surround Sound Headphones are packaged with a premium AR® optical cable with Toslink® connectors, a 7V AC power supply, and three AAA Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries.

The Wireless Surround Sound Headphones will ship in late January at a suggested retail price of $299.99.
