Sampo America Introduces New Line of DVD Players

Sampo DVD Players Offer MP3 Capabilities

BALDWIN PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 16, 2000--Sampo America, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the leading Taiwanese consumer electronics manufacturer Sampo Corp., is launching a new line of DVD players in time for the gift giving season.

The DVE line features three models - the DVE-620 with component video output, the DVE-660 with Dolby Digital Decoder and the DVE-625, which comes equipped with Karaoke.

All three models in the DVE line support MP3 audio playback so users can experience downloaded music on high quality sound systems.

``Sampo DVD players are for anyone building an audio/video home theater,'' James Chen, president, Sampo America, said. ``From watching the latest blockbusters with crystal clear digital playback to listening to the hottest MP3s from the Internet, Sampo DVD Players deliver unprecedented quality and value.''

Sampo is one of the first companies to standardize Component Video Outputs on the entire DVD product line for superior video playback. When Sampo DVD player is connected to a TV equipped with component video inputs, the image displayed is crisp and in true color.

Sampo DVD players are equipped with several user-friendly standard features. The DVE line has a 5-Language On-Screen Display - including English, Spanish, French and Asian languages. The Sampo products also support multiple disc formats including DVD, Video CD, Super VCD, CD-R and MP3 audio encoded discs so consumers can enjoy a wide variety of programming on many discs.

In addition, the DVE line offers digital video markers that can be used for book marking favorite movie scenes, instant access and for playback.

``Nearly 50 percent of all DVD player sales are done during the holiday season,'' Chen said. ``Sampo offers those holiday shoppers great DVD performance and product features at an attractive price.''

Sampo DVD players are available regionally through small- and medium-sized consumer electronics retailers and dealers as well as Internet channels.

Suggested retail prices are $169 for the basic model, DVE-620, $199 for DVE-660, which includes Dolby Digital Decoder and $279 for DVE-625, with the Karaoke features. Sampo offers one-year warranty on parts and service for the DVE product line.
