Free CEA-Sponsored College Music & Technology Event Demonstrates New Surround Music Formats |
| ARLINGTON,
Va.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2000--Thousands of dollars worth of new consumer audio
equipment including complete surround music mini-systems are being given away on select
college campuses this fall during the BuzzNet 2000 tour. Sponsored by the Consumer
Electronics Association (CEA), BuzzNet is an ``ears-on'' educational festival of new
high-resolution, surround music listening technologies planned for U.S. colleges this year
and next. BuzzNet 2000 visits California State University at Long Beach on October 11th and 12th, and the University of California at Davis on October 16th and 17th. For more information and to register to attend, visit the BuzzNet Web site, www.buzznet.org. BuzzNet events are absolutely free, and all those who attend are automatically entered in daily drawings for the equipment giveaways. Complete surround music mini-systems -- such as those demonstrated in BuzzNet's ``ultimate dorm room'' exhibit -- plus surround speakers, receivers, and other components will be given away periodically during each day of BuzzNet. Surround music DVDs will also be among the contest prizes. In addition, all attendees will receive a 16-page brochure explaining new audio technologies to guide them through the BuzzNet exhibits. Sponsoring companies contributing equipment or in-kind support to the BuzzNet 2000 giveaways include Alpine, Denon, Dolby Laboratories, Klipsch, Runco, Sherwood America, Toshiba, Yamaha, and Hachette, publisher of Sound & Vision and Mobile Entertainment magazines. In addition to experiencing the surround music of BuzzNet's ultimate dorm room, attendees will have the chance to immerse themselves in the sound of a top-of-the-line surround system for automobiles. Also on hand will be headphones making use of new technology to create a stunning ``virtual surround'' experience. New surround music tracks from Venice Underground, Big Phat Band, Aaron Neville, and Sounds of Blackness among others will be used at BuzzNet to demonstrate the total immersion quality of the new high-resolution surround formats. Even more than the transition from mono to two-channel stereo brought listeners closer to the reality of live music, the advent of surround brings listeners into the heart of the music. New audio technologies demonstrated at BuzzNet, such as DVD-Audio, will make music fans feel like they're sitting in the studio with the band. The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), a sector of the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), represents more than 600 U.S. companies involved in the development, manufacturing and distribution of audio, video, mobile electronics, communications, information technology, multimedia and accessory products, as well as related services, that are sold through consumer channels. Combined, these companies account for more than $60 billion in annual sales. CEA also sponsors and manages the International CES Your Source for Workstyle and Lifestyle Technology(SM). All profits from CES are reinvested into industry services, including technical training and education, industry promotion, engineering standards development, market research and legislative advocacy. Note: Buzznet media credentials available by request.
