Bose Uses Analog Devices' Signal Processing Technology to Power Music Systems

- SHARC(R) DSPs enable highest performance audio signal processing.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE: ADI) today announced that Bose Corporation incorporates high performance signal processing components developed by Analog Devices across its entire line of Lifestyle® home theater systems, which includes the innovative Lifestyle 50 home theater system. These Bose systems use two Analog Devices' Melody(TM) decoders, running on the 32-bit SHARC® DSP, to perform 5.1-channel Dolby® Digital decoding and Bose proprietary Videostage® 5 decoding. The announcement was made at the Audio Engineering Society Conference, which opened here today. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000501/ADILOGO )

``The ability for Bose engineers to create innovative software without processor limitations is key to our product development process. That is why we selected the SHARC processor family. The combination of floating-point, a large internal memory, and a rich instruction set simplifies the programming task and reduces our development time and expense,'' said Dr. Paul Beckmann, Project Engineer, Bose Corporation.

``The Bose Lifestyle home theater systems take full advantage of Analog Devices' end-to-end 32-bit audio signal processing technology to deliver recording studio sound to home theatre sound,'' said Mike Haidar, general manager, Software & Systems Division, Analog Devices. ``Bose is helping to bring 32-bit digital audio to become a market reality and a de facto industry standard.''

The digital entertainment market represents an estimated $4 billion dollars in annual sales of data converters, DSPs and analog circuits used in high performance audio/video applications, according to WSTS. These applications include high end audio/video receivers, digital still cameras, camcorders, DVD players, LCD monitors, and scanners. In many of these applications, Analog Devices is the market share leader, with core technologies to enable continued leadership and customer innovations.
