- First Product Available on Microsemi's New E-Commerce Site - Speeds design-in of LX1710 Single Channel AudioMAX® Controller - 35 Watt Power Provides Near-Audiophile Sound with 2-Ohm Speakers |
| SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--Aug. 31, 2000-- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC) today announced that its new
LXE1710 AudioMAX Evaluation Kit has become the first product available from the company's
expanded Web site, a direct e-commerce capability believed to be one of the first of its
kind for a semiconductor supplier. The evaluation kit, which includes a fully functional amplifier based on Microsemi's LX1710 AudioMAX single-channel controller IC, can provide up to 50 watts of power for popular 2-ohm speakers. ``This kit will allow audio designers to quickly and easily evaluate the 1710 control IC. It also can be instrumental in system-level decision-making, comparing Class D with traditional linear topologies,'' said Roger Holliday, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for power management products. ``We provide everything they need, except for their choice of a power source and speakers.'' Holliday added, ``We're finding a growing interest in our Class D technology, driven primarily by applications requiring a reduction in heat, and efficiency enhancements. ``Applications for the single-channel AudioMAX chip include PC sound cards, notebook docking stations, portable/wireless speaker systems, automotive PC, and musical instruments,'' he said. Holliday noted that the LX1710 is a second-generation AudioMAX design having superior THD and signal-to-noise specs to its predecessor. At 10 watts, the device measures THD+N levels of .06% and an SNR of 81dBV for its single-channel controller. The new controller IC comes in two versions, the LX1710 with slightly higher fidelity and the LX1711 with a maximum power output greater than 50 watts. Both versions can be powered by as little as 7 volts dc and are packaged in a standard 28-pin wide body SOIC package. ``For a number of years, Microsemi has benefited from some of the most advanced internal Web communications capabilities in the industry,'' said Manuel Lynch, Director of Worldwide Marketing and Business Development. ``We've also been a pioneer in developing our external Web capabilities, so today's launch of full-scale e-store is in keeping with our objectives to be a leader in using Internet capabilities.'' Until now, semiconductor companies -- including Microsemi -- provided their customers with Web ordering capability by routing inquiries to appropriate distribution points outside the company. ``Instant gratification is such a part of our culture today that we believe anything a company can do to speed the ordering process is an edge. We want www.Microsemi.com to be there first,'' Lynch said. In OEM quantities of 1K, the LX1710 is priced at $3.15 and the LX1711 at $3.25. The new evaluation kit is priced at $49.00.
