Analog Devices to Incorporate Dolby Headphone in New Chipset

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 2000--Analog Devices, Inc., announced that it will include Dolby Headphone technology on its new Melody chipset, the ADSST-MELODY-1000. This is the first hardware-based, standalone solution of Dolby Headphone to be certified.

Dolby Headphone, a patented technology developed by Lake Technology and licensed to Dolby Laboratories, is a unique signal processing system that enables any pair of stereo headphones to realistically portray the sound of a 5.1-loudspeaker playback system. The technology can be incorporated into any type of audio or video product normally featuring a headphone outlet.

The ADSST-MELODY-1000 chipset uses SHARC DSP chips and features a 32-bit, floating-point implementation of the Dolby Headphone process. The chipset is designed to accept a number of digital audio formats, including 5.1-channel Dolby Digital, MPEG-2 AAC (licensed by Dolby Laboratories), MPEG-2 Audio Layers 1 and 2, MLP, MP3, or PCM. It can also process the outputs of Dolby Surround Pro Logic and Pro Logic II decoders, as well as all regular stereo audio formats.
