Earjam's New Artist-Retailer-Consumer(ARC) Service Provides Direct Link Between Artists and Fans. Motley Crue & Beyond Music Sign On For the Launch Of New Album 'New Tattoo' |
| SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--June 19, 2000-- Earjam.com(tm), a leading developer of software and services for
the Internet music market, announced the Earjam ARC(tm) (Artist-Retailer-Consumer) service
today at the MP3 Summit in San Diego. ``Labels and artists have been searching for a digital communication solution that strengthens their fan relationship while embracing their 'click & mortar' retail channel partners,'' said Dave Ulmer, President and CEO of Earjam.com, Inc. ``With this new service, labels and artists can leverage their existing distribution channels while establishing an intimate and on-going relationship with their fans.'' The Earjam ARC service is a combination of a custom software application and a sophisticated database service that directly connects consumers to specific on-line sources of media-rich content. The desktop application, an Internet Music Player (IMP) with an embedded Media Agent, allows consumers to easily download and play a personalized selection of music and video from artist sites and participating retailers. The IMP sports an artist-branded skin and customized retailer and artist content. The IMP software is pre-loaded on music CDs and distributed via participating retailers. Once a user plays the enhanced CD on their computer, the IMP provides a direct connection to online content, communication and promotions provided by the featured artist, and personalized for each individual retail partner. The Earjam ARC service supports both audio and video content, allowing artists to offer exclusive music or video selections as bonus content. The service creates a dynamic link to the Internet that pushes new targeted content to user's desktops every ten seconds. Retailers, labels and artists will be able to reward and cultivate an interested and engaged audience, by offering special incentives or promotions on a continuing basis. The Earjam ARC service supports a wide variety of distribution strategies, allowing the content owners to choose their preferred distribution method, file format and Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology. The service currently supports MP3, CD Audio and Windows Media formats as well as secure Windows Media transactions. Additional DRM support is under development and will be announced shortly. Beyond Music, which represents a large number of popular artists including Motley Crue, Lucy Pearl, Blondie, Veruca Salt and Yes, has entered into a strategic partnership with Earjam for the launch of the New Tattoo Motley Crue album, scheduled to hit retail shelves on July 11. ``We're excited about these new capabilities to use off-line promotions to strengthen an ongoing relationship with diehard fans,'' said Phil Sandhaus, General Manager of Beyond Music. ``Earjam has made it possible to add a lot of value to Motley Crue's New Tattoo CD and leverage our strong retail distribution with exciting online tie-ins.'' According to bass player and Motley Crue co-founder Nikki Sixx, ``Motley Crue have always supported any outlet, Internet or otherwise, that allows us to connect to our fans. Our fans will dig Earjam!'' ``This is an important new breakthrough in bringing the fans and artists together while strengthening existing retail relationships,'' said Scott Hunter, Earjam.coms's Vice President of Business Development. ``It's good for the label, good for the retailer, good for the consumer, and, most importantly, good for the artist.''
