| DALLAS, June 15 /PRNewswire/
-- Extending its leadership role in the digital audio market, Texas Instruments
Incorporated (NYSE: TXN; TI) today announced that the company has developed a
system-on-a-chip (SOC) based on its low-power programmable DSP, TMS320C5000(TM) for the
Internet Audio market. This technology was developed in collaboration with Sony (NYSE:
SNE). Sony has incorporated the SOC in its new Network Walkman(TM), the NW-E3. Based on
this technology, TI will continue to expand this DSP solution for smaller, lighter and
more power-efficient players. ``TI's DSP featuring software programmability is flexible enough to dramatically shorten the development time of digital audio players with new, advanced features. In addition, TI's DSP long-term roadmap and ever-expanding audio infrastructure software library allow us to stay at the forefront of the industry,'' said Mr. Noriyuki Koga, General Manager of Personal Entertainment Division, AE Group of Sony Corporation HNC. ``We jointly developed a SOC for the Network Walkman with TI. We expect continuous development of TI's DSP technology in this area.'' TI's ultra-low power C5000 DSP supports the ATRAC3 audio compression format and integrates the LCD display and user interfaces. Additionally, this solution allows Sony to update feature and function with a simple software download, rather than by changing internal hardware. TI's C5000 significantly extends the battery life of the NW-E3, and its small size allows Sony to design devices with extremely compact form factors. ``Sony's decision to integrate TI's programmable DSP into its Walkman(TM) product line is a sign that while this market is growing and changing very fast, TI has the most comprehensive system solution offering to meet the challenge,'' said Jorge Kittl, worldwide business manager of Internet Audio at Texas Instruments. ``As the leading chip supplier shipping multi-format volume production today, TI continues to strengthen its leadership position in the Internet Audio market.'' About TI Texas Instruments Incorporated is the world leader in digital signal processing and analog technologies, the semiconductor engines of the Internet age. The company's businesses also include materials and controls, and educational and productivity solutions. TI is headquartered in Dallas, Texas and has manufacturing or sales operations in more than 25 countries. Texas Instruments is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the
symbol TXN. More information is located on the Web site at www.ti.com
