Webnoize Research Finds More Than Half of College Students Would Pay to Swap MP3 Files Online |
| CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS
WIRE)--June 7, 2000--According to Webnoize (http://www.webnoize.com),
a leading authority on the digital entertainment revolution, more than half of college
students surveyed that use Napster, the controversial MP3 Internet swapping software,
would pay $15 per month to continue to use it. The finding is included in ``Napster University: From File Swapping to the Future of Entertainment Commerce,'' a Webnoize research report that details MP3 swapping among college students, and explains how the Srend will affect the future of the entertainment industry. ``The music industry already prices CDs so that revenue generated from successful releases offsets expenses incurred from most others, which fail,'' explained Webnoize Analyst Ric Dube, who authored the report. ``Charging one monthly price to hear it all could expand the market by providing more value for the dollar.'' According to Webnoize, digital music is becoming an integral part of college lifestyles. While nearly 23% of students surveyed said they are spending significantly less time listening to compact discs than one year ago, 63% said they spend more time listening to downloaded music. Webnoize's ``Napster University'' also reports how many MP3 files college students are downloading, and how often college students are using Napster. Webnoize Research is the research, analysis and think-tank division of Webnoize, a complete vertical intelligence network focused solely on digital entertainment. ``Napster University'' is based on a survey of 4,294 college students (73% national, 27% international) attending four-year colleges in New England. The study is available for purchase online at: http://research.webnoize.com.
